The most important things a tutor can do for a student is be patient and listen to what they aren't understanding. Also to be able to identify that is a student isn't understanding a concept then the tutor needs to be able to recognise this and try to explain it to them in a different way. I think my strengths as a tutor are that I am a very…

Most important thing would be to know what the goal of the student is and help them and support them in achieving their goal in a friendly environment. A tutor should be able to offer many different explanations so that the student has a better chance of understanding a particular concept. Most important is to make the student feel at ease and be…

Students spend a major part of a day in school. Many children are unable to get the most of it due to time-constraints and lack of individual attention in a class. However, there are a few students who maintain attention and focus in a classroom environment. Reason is they are more prepared than the rest. If a child follows what is happening in…

Inside BeldonTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Leia worked on rounding numbers to the nearest 100 and 1000, and used factor trees to explore factors of whole numbers.

Year 7 student Ethan focused on adding and subtracting fractions—including mixed numbers—and practiced converting improper fractions as part of his session.

Meanwhile, Year 8 student Sophie revised interpreting data from different types of graphs and completed probability worksheets to strengthen her understanding of chance events.

Recent Challenges

In Year 7 maths, homework was left incomplete, especially tasks involving time conversion and factor trees. "She still needs to focus on completing the set homework," a tutor noted, which meant gaps persisted in skills that needed practice outside lessons.

A Year 10 student hesitated to write out full algebra steps, preferring mental calculations; this hid small sign errors and made it harder to spot patterns when mistakes occurred.

In senior years, revision often circled back to times tables or basic operations rather than tackling newer content—leading to repeated uncertainty when faced with multi-step problems in unfamiliar contexts.

Recent Achievements

A Beldon tutor noticed a Year 9 student who used to guess quietly when stuck on multi-step algebra now stops and asks for help, which has sped up her problem-solving and led to fewer mistakes.

In Year 10 maths, one student who struggled with trigonometry last term is now working through most problems independently—he even tackled extension questions independently this week.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner recently started using her fingers to count instead of drawing diagrams, answering times tables much faster than before; she finished an entire set of practice questions without hesitation.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Whitford Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Beldon Primary School.
