What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
As a kid who found it really difficult to maintain focus and interest in subjects that weren't taught in my learning style I love being able to help kids who are experiencing the same thing to find enjoyment and a sense of achievement from something they were having frustration with.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I'm able to listen and work with a student to find a way that makes a subject they're uninterested in enjoyable and engaging. I've done sports coaching for primary and middle school students and I've found I'm able to get along with and find a way to relate to kids labelled as troublemakers. They're being pushed into something they're not necessarily interested in, but usually they're disinterest is because the approach isn't tailored to them.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Listening to their needs and their struggles is vital to finding a way for them to enjoy school and the subject.
You need to be able to push the student but in a way that helps them to achieve something they're proud of. Pushing them for results is usually only going to increase their frustration and dislike for school/learning.
Tutors are in a position where they can change a child's entire outlook on learning into something really positive but if they take an approach that's wrong for that child they can also cement a frustration and dislike for school that could cause significant damage.
