What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I have always admired the idea of improving someone’s life by giving them a sense of knowledge and understanding to make a positive difference to their lives! But tutoring can also be a challenge! Being able to tailor your approach to each student's individual's needs can be tough! But this challenge is something I love. Being able to adapt myself and try out new learning mechanisms, either visually, verbally or even through active recall makes it enjoyable whilst also allowing me to develop lifelong friendships and work as a team with my peers.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a tutor, I am not only adaptable to each student's learning style, but also believe in strong communication that can make any lesson far from boring rote learning! Partaking actively in Toastmasters, a public speaking platform which has given me various opportunities to speak in front of large audiences and formulate entertaining speeches has allowed me to improve my sociability and enhance my confidence. As a result, I am better able to read and understand social cues and would love to translate such strengths as a tutor to not only make my classes informative, but also fun!
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
One of the key aspects of teaching is adapting a student-centred approach. Every student is different - learning with different styles and at different paces. This makes is highly valuable for a tutor to be considerate and take into account the students' needs. A tutor must be willing to answer any questions the student has and consistently assess their knowledge to fill in any gaps as required. Furthermore, a tutor not only forms a relationship with the student, but also with parents. As a result, they must be an open communicator and be transparent in conversations.
