What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love the aspect of showing a student how to think of ways to find a solution. Instead of showing them what the answer is, I try and make an understanding on the concepts and get some intuition into the ideas behind the problems. When it works, it is a 'eureka' moment for the student which puts a smile on my face.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I have studied level one mathematics at RMIT which includes Calculus 1 & 2 as part of my degree. I understand why math can be perceived as difficult, unfortunately at many schools, teachers choose to show methods on how to come to a solution. They fail to teach the intuition behind it, which makes it difficult to solve curve ball questions in exams. I was this student, my high school grades were average because i did not gain the intuition. At university, they teach this and as a result my GPA for first year was 3.8. As a tutor, I understand that your job is to teach intuition.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Show them how to approach a problem, show them what mathematical ideas are linked with the problem. Then draw from those concepts what works and what does not work. For eg if a student is struggling with trig based questions, go back to the basics of functions and see where the gap is. As a tutor I need to make sure that the student understands the basics before trying to tackle a more difficult problem.
