What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The best aspect that I find about tutoring, is being able to converse with the student not just as their mentor, but also as their friend who's been in the same situation as them. Despite how other people would perceive it, tutoring is actually quite difficult but also fundamental for growth in independence when adapting to different situations and is something I find rewarding as is needed in the field of engineering. Throughout the time that I spend with a student, I always enjoy being able to witness their growth in grades and seeing them achieve their own goals.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As a student in pre-year 12, my grades definitely were not the greatest with my parents relying on tutors to keep me afloat. It was only to a point where I understood who I was and what I wanted to do in year 12 that let me strive for the best marks possible for me to achieve. Working with students is also a sense of familiarity, where the struggles that they see were once the struggles that I saw in high school. Being able to connect with these students not only as their tutor but as their mentor is something I believe to be a characteristic strength of mine. Currently, in my third year into my degree in the integrated Bachelor (Honours)/Master of Chemical and Environmental Engineering program at The University of Queensland, I've had the great opportunity to meet with various leaders in the industry and reflect on my own journey from high school to where I stand now.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
It is always back to the fundamentals. Without fundamentals, all attempts for learning anything else are meaningless. Being one of the pillars of support for a student is crucial for their own growth. In high school or well especially, year 12, is stressful, it is important for someone to be there to reassure them of any troubles that they may face. Other than just being a tutor, being a mentor is the most important thing for a tutor.
