What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is working with students and getting to engage in academic material. I've always loved school, so I love getting to dive deep into the material whether it be math, science, English, or history. I also love getting to talk to students about it and getting to them through working with them.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor are relationship building and ensuring students are learning as much as possible. Through working with different students, I've learned how important it is to meet the student where they're at and make them feel comfortable and heard. The more comfortable they are with their tutor, the more they can truly focus on the material. This is when they will ask questions and truly learn. Further, over time, I've learned how to guide students to understanding through asking them questions rather than giving them the answers, to ensure they are full understanding the material.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student are listening to them and paying attention to their needs. Students can be shy and may not make it abundantly clear what they need in any given moment, but there are usually signs, though they may be subtle. It is a tutor's job to monitor the student throughout a lesson and make sure that they are getting everything that they need, academically, as well as mentally and emotionally. Tutors also serve as role models so it's important that we be aware of everything that we say and how that might impact the student.

Lukas is improving in his abilities to work with polynomials & solve equations. Lukas is very quick with his mental math.
Lukas still avoids writing down his problems, which sometimes allows him to solve a problem more quickly, but also sometimes causes him to get confused and make mistakes. I encourage him to keep writing down his problems even when he thinks he can solve them in his head. I think it's also important that he slow down when reading the problem so that he can think it through carefully, rather than trying to solve immediately before giving the problem careful thought.
