What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy interacting with the students and simplifying concepts that they may have otherwise found difficult at school. An instance of this is students struggling with writing a simple paragraph due to their teachers and the classroom environment not being conclusive enough to teach that concept. Once I am able to go through the little steps of writing a simple paragraph with students, English no longer seems like the most daunting subjects and they develop their writing flow. I enjoy this a lot as a tutor as it shows me that the student has confidence in their ability to complete a task.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor is often getting uninterested students and those students 'forced' by their parents to ge tutoring to see value in what they are learning. I try to do this by relating everything they learn to the real world. For instance, I would have students asking me when they would ever use the quadratic formula. For the high-school student who would ask me this, I would make them ponder on what they see themselves doing as a career. Following this, I link their learning material and teach them what a transferrable skill is. This gets them a bit more engaged with the material.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for students is to make sure the student learns and personally gains value from each lesson. This effectively means making sure they learn something from every lesson. It is upto you as the tutor to gauge the level of understanding of the student and realising no two students are the same. As a tutor you need to go at the pace of the student and from then on make sure they learn and continuously improve.
