What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The fact that there is an obvious improvement in the grades and results from the people I tutor. Nothing is better (in my opinion) than someone getting exactly what I mean in mathematics and other subjects such as Chemistry.
A key part of helping/tutoring peers with their work enhanced my own work as well, as I'm actively looking for explanations of various concepts, improving my understanding of a particular topic further. Ultimately, I find tutoring a win-win situation.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As someone who have experienced being new to topics, I am empathetic to people trying to learn new things, especially mathematics where the subject area can be alien to many people. I tend to know exactly what people know and don't know, which allows me to start topics down to the very basics that anyone can understand, then slowly getting more complex.
Another key aspect of successful tutoring is patience. I believe I have the patience to teach new topics without getting frustrated that students are repeatedly not understanding it (if that was the case, it is likely the tutor's fault).
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that tutors should not only deliver information, but also mentor and engage them in a variety of approaches to problems. I consider the most important aspect in tutoring is setting the necessary foundation for students (i.e. developing interest in the subject area). It is extremely common that students will simply give up on a particular subject because they lacked interest in it, which in turn causes them to pay less attention, hence achieving bad results. By giving them the interest in the subject, they will place more and more effort, achieving better results.

Marie uses a given equation and interprets it as a graph. She understands how the slope of the line is determined in some simple examples. Additionally, she does well in first identifying all whole number coordinates that the line passes through.
Marie could practice a lot more in sketching lines as sketching graphs is a very important skill in the later years of high school. Furthermore, she could make better use of a grid when sketching, but not overuse it as it may not be provides in an exam.

Marie could identify the gradient and y-intercept for each line given the gradient intercept form and explain how to calculate the gradient. She used rise over run to determine whether a line is steep or shallow, while also determining whether the line is increasing or decreasing.
Marie needs some improvement in describing what the gradient and y-intercept represents in a worded problem. She should work on converting general form of a line into the gradient intercept form, and vice versa.

Marie practically did her own assignment without much help. It is very responsible of her to start an assignment early. She also did well for the simple interest part and applying multiple discounts.
Marie should work on understanding compound interest and compare the differences between it and simple interest. During the assignment, I'd highly recommend that she label her answers and answer the question in a concluding statement to avoid losing any marks.

Marie started slow, but quickly grasps the calculations and even challenged herself to memorise the numbers in ATO tax brackets. She uses a variety of tools to imagine how tax can be reduced.
Marie did well for most of the lesson but she just needs to watch out for silly errors when copying numbers into the book or punching numbers into a calculator correctly.
