What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Seeing a student make progress, gain confidence with their new skills as they go on past me and on into their future. Every student is a different, individual problem to solve. I like solving problems. It’s pleasurable. And I enjoy seeing a student take pleasure in their own success. Do you remember the pleasure you got way back in primary school and you read something to your parents or you stood up in class and read something? I get that feeling when my students get that feeling.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I’ve learnt to be attenuated to each student’s level and adjust my language accordingly. While we don’t need to catch every single word in an utterance, it’s important to speak so that students get the gist of your meaning at the very least. I adapt my speech speed and diction so that it’s just a little above the student’s level. This gives them the experience of success in a language environment. The experience of success helps build confidence.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

Listening carefully comes first. All other things can follow from listening. From listening I can understand their vocabulary, grammar level, sense of language and so forth. After this, I can firstly adapt my language to them and then secondly, design specific exercises to take students into better habits so that they can express themselves as accurately as they choose.
