What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The moment when someone figures out the answer to a question, and more importantly, it is themselves who figured out the answer, which they probably didn't even know where to start as of before. It's the acquirement of the correct mindset and thought process that I observe emerging from the people I helped that I enjoy the most. As a great Chinese idiom says, 'teaching one to fish is superior to gifting one fish'.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My 'creed' is always that I will not give away the answer scotch-free. I want to invite the students to answer how the question can be solved, what steps they took to arrive at the answer, and why. I guide and hint the students to the answer, instead of spoon-feeding. I believe answering and doing a lot of questions may prepare you well for the exam, but you can never do and memorize enough questions and there's no point in pushing it to the extreme. So rather if the thought process is constructed well, the student is able to answer almost any question.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
As I mentioned previously, I believe the most important aspects of a tutor is being able to guide students through questions, rather than presenting the answers without reason. Also a good tutor should work on building the mindset of the students, to be able to analyze the questions and tackle them. To put in more fancy words, a tutor should incentivize the students' critical thinking skills and problem-solving skills, on top of grasping the syllabus.
