What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I find that the most enjoyable aspect of tutoring is helping students to gain confidence in their own abilities. Through tutoring, I am not only able to help students complete their schoolwork but teach them long term strategies to improve their studies. I find it highly rewarding and exciting to see students improve and feel proud of their achievements.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe that my greatest strength as a tutor is patience. I am happy to take as much time as needed in order to make sure my students have properly understood what they have been taught.
I also think that my flexibility as a teacher is a strength. When a student has trouble understanding a concept, I try to vary my approach to teaching in a way that suits them.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that teaching students how to become a more independent learner is the most important thing that a tutor can do. As a tutor, it is important to help guide students through their work but not become a crutch that they rely too heavily upon. This way, students will be better equipped to handle the rest of their time at school. Helping students to become more independent learners allows for a greater feeling of accomplishment when students meet their goals. This is important, as I believe that the most effective motivation for students comes from internal motivators not external ones.

Annabelle is very enthusiastic and she seemed to enjoy the sorting activity a lot. She didn’t want to move on to the next activity until she had done all the cards.
Annabelle was very enthusiastic this week, though I did notice she was a bit reluctant to sound out words she wasn’t sure of. She often tries to guess a word instead of sounding it out. Though I was really happy to see that she sounded out words very well when she was writing sentences.
Anabelle is very eager to learn and while she does have trouble with her reading she is very willing to give it her best shot.

I think it will be very helpful to work on phonics with Anabelle. She seems to have a bit of trouble with figuring out how certain letter combinations sound. I think making sure to remind her that she can break difficult words into smaller segments will also help a lot. I noticed that when she found a word difficult to read she would get a bit overwhelmed and would forget that she can break the word up into easier sections.
Micah was already familiar with quite a bit of the grammar and picked it up quickly.

Discussed with Micah that he should try to take notes in class to make sure he understands task requirements. Also mentioned how he should try to read to criteria sheet for extra guidance.
Micah completed his draft on time for our lesson. The draft was a good start and once again, his concept was good.

While Micah has good ideas, he still needs to work on execution. In upcoming lessons we can have a look at how to plan a piece of assessment before staring to actually write.
