What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love helping other people achieve more than they believed they were capable of on their own. Tutoring serves the same purpose that I hope to attain in child psychology, which is giving others the skills they need to have a more fulfilled (or easier) life. Moreover, I am super passionate about English in all its forms. Stories are the foundation of most people's lives even if they don't consciously recognize it and I think, given the right support, everyone can discover an appreciation for the art. Even if someone doesn't connect to English as a subject I think it offers many vital skills.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have a very broad knowledge base as I love learning about any subject I stumble upon. This allows me to connect to the passions of a lot of other people and find ways to make a subject that doesn't interest them accessible.
I'm very empathetic and creative so if something isn't clicking for a student I will teach them something a hundred times in a hundred different ways until it works.
I know both classic study techniques (acronyms and flashcards) as well as out-of-the-box techniques (voice memos and speed-reading apps).
My dedication is a point of stability for unsure students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do is to always try to understand their student. Everyone learns differently, needs help in different ways, and faces different problems. There's no one size fits all and tutoring offers students a chance that they don't have in classrooms of thirty other students where they a learn in a way that makes sense to them.
I also think it's vital to be calm and kind as there's so much anxiety about failing at any age but especially during high school. That fear can manifest in many ways but, regardless, a tutor is uniquely equipped to help.
