What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The most satisfying part about tutoring is seeing the exact moment when a concept begins to make sense to a student who was previously having trouble understanding. I enjoy being able to help others to achieve what they want to achieve in life. I was previously a disability support worker so working in a role that acts as a means for others to reach their desired goals is something I enjoy doing. Additionally, being able to regularly tutor a subject is useful for me too! It allows for the content I am teaching to remain fresh in my mind. This is useful (for maths, science, and English alike) because some of the concepts taught in these subjects remain important within the field of computer science (what I'm currently studying!).

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

One strength I have as being a tutor is that I am a very patient and calm person. This is an important thing for a tutor to possess, as it may take more than one kind of explanation of the same concept in order for a student to finally understand, and that is completely fine (nobody is perfect at everything)! Additionally, I am an approachable person. I would encourage my clients to ask questions and interrupt me if needed. I would also tell students that they can feel free to email me with any questions that they may have even outside of tutoring hours.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

The most important things I can do for, and with, a student as a tutor is are being able to set realistic goals, work towards and track progress towards those goals, and celebrate achievements together. Tutors must know the content that they are teaching, and refresh their knowledge in their own time if they are unsure of something. Additionally, tutors must provide multiple explanations, as students may have varying preferred learning styles (i.e. by visual means, using metaphors, etc.). Tutors also need to provide suitable questions, ranging from easy to hard difficulty, to allow for students to gain practice (practice makes perfect after all). Lastly, tutors should teach effective study habits and exam preparation techniques, so that students are able to continue to thrive independently in the future.
