What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
- Ever since a kid, I love Maths because I always thought you can always find a solution and prove it to others when they disagree. I love the feeling of problem-solving and overcoming something. That feeling of victory. I have always done this with friends and helping someone else feel the same way is what I love most about tutoring Maths.
- Seeing students I have taught succeed in Maths or other aspects
- The relationship I have made with the students, their personality
- helping students achieve what they initially thought was out of reach (help them reach their potential)
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
- passion for Maths and problem solving
- despite using the curriculum, I am flexible in terms of catering to students needs
- incorporate the importance of basic principles to students
- I make Maths fun for students by explaining why Maths is done the way they are and there are more than just one way to solve a problem
- Use visual aids (ex. youtube) for better understanding
- taught students from non-English speaking background, thus understand their challenges (as I am also one of them - similar experience)
- convince Maths taught for real-world use (students often complain it's useless)
Most important things I can do for a student π
- Building a positive healthy relationship
- Caring for their mental and physical wellbeing
- Catering to their needs
- Encouraging & motivating students
- Sharing life experience and giving them advise
- making sure they always leave learning something useful
- Recognizing students learn at a different pace
- Making the session fun & challenging enough so they will feel rewarded and motivated (often when students can't understanding they will feel like they are made for Maths) - convince them that anyone can learn anything
- Making a positive environment; encouraging rather than belittling
