What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The most enjoyable thing about tutoring isn't the development of my own leadership skills or even the improvement in the marks of my students (speaking from my brief mathematics tutoring experience). What was most enjoyable was seeing the confidence in my student's abilities increase. This is something that draws me back in to tutor again, something that I miss.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I worked hard during my HSC to get the best mark that I could. Whilst this doesn't necessarily make me a strong tutor, I will admit, it means that I have experience doing what students do and being on the other side. I'm also a reflective person. I made plenty, plenty of mistakes during my HSC (related both to study and my personal life) that I have reflected on which I think makes me a stronger, more well-equipped, person today. Thus, my work ethic and reflective personality, which have helped me develop an attitude for success, are my strengths as a tutor.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I don't believe that the most important things that a tutor can do for a student start in the classroom. The most important thing in achieving desired outcomes in school, or any discipline, is attitude. It starts with understanding that a whole is made up of parts, and that ten minutes a day, although small, adds up over the course of three months, one year, or even a lifetime. It starts with understanding that today counts. Now, this is only one facet of the attitude needed to succeed, however, I believe it is something that the general population of students lack, and something I can teach.
