What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Personally, I think being trained as a teacher at university has shown me how much I enjoy helping and teaching students.
When I did my professional placement at White Gum Valley, I had a few students who struggled with their reading, so being able to tailor my teaching methods and strategies towards these children, and watching how that positively impacted their growth and attitudes toward English and reading, made me realize how important it is for children to have a good, patient, mentor. I think ultimately, I just enjoy being able to help students believe in themselves!
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think being patient and adaptable are my most important strengths. In particular, knowing and understanding a child's proficiencies, difficulties, strengths, and weaknesses is incredibly crucial to developing a specific learning plan for them, and for setting achievable learning goals.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all program for every child, and I understand that every child is different and learns differently, and thus needs to be provided with tasks, activities, and challenges that cater to their unique learning styles.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think a tutor should help a child believe in themselves, and believe that they can achieve anything they put their mind to. It is important to give them lots of encouragement, kindness, whilst also challenging them to step outside of their comfort zones. I think a tutor should also go beyond merely giving out the same, mundane worksheets and assignments. A tutor should fully understand how a child learns, and create a fun and engaging environment which provides rich opportunities for learning and growth.
