William's writing is pretty good. He obviously understood what he wanted to talk about and chose great arguments to prove his point. He was bang on 4 minutes with his timing and is a pretty proficient reader. He took on criticism really well and was really starting to analyse the work he had done to try and make it better.
He really needs to read everything he write out loud to himself so that he can hear any mistakes he's made in his sentence structure, or if a portion of what he's written doesn't sound right. One point we really discussed is his propensity to knee-cap his sentences by not sounding confident enough, so he needs to work on that. This will also come in handy with his delivery of the speech, which is currently a bit flat and monotone. We discussed putting in a lot more passion and making his notes reflect where he should put the emphasis.
He has paid a decent amount of attention to the text as he is reading it in class and seems to understand the context of the novel fairly well.

His sentence structure looks like it needs the most help to begin with. His writing is otherwise very good, I think he just needs to proof read before he hands it in. I think it's just going to take practice to nail it down.
Nicholas was attentive and interested in the subject matter. He seemed to grasp the concepts that we discussed really well and asked plenty of clarifying questions.

At this stage it's hard to tell, as he hasn't actually read the book or discussed it in class, so we will see what needs working on as he goes on after the holidays.
