What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Seeing students figure things out in real time is a rewarding experience at any student level. Successfully transferring knowledge on any subject, especially maths, to another person is what allowed humanity to get to where it is and being able to live that out in small scale with a student is a wonderous thing.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My biggest strengths as a tutor are empathy and patience. Empathizing with the student as they try to understand a new concept is important so they know others have similar experiences and the problem isn't with them. Patience to continue trying different approaches with students in order to find the one that best transfers the knowledge to the student.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
It's not a pleasant feeling when you can't figure something out, it can make you feel dumb, make you feel other kids are better than you, make you feel like you don't deserve certain things, and lose confidence in yourself. I had some of these issues in year 11 when new concepts just weren't landing with me in the classroom. After some one-on-one time with a tutor the concepts became easier to understand and I was able to regain some academic confidence I had lost. In short, helping students understand things they struggle to understand is the most important thing a tutor can do for a student.
