What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy being able to help students grasp new concepts that at first feel intangible, and develop their understanding to grasp the concepts in a meaningful way, rather than purely off rote learning. It is also satisfying to see students become intrigued and excited towards a subject that can be initially confronting, by showing interesting ways the topic can be applied.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my main strengths as a tutor is my excitement for my topics, especially for mathematics. Having caught an interest since high school, I found the subject to be very engaging alongside the outstanding teachers and professors involved as I moved on to university studies. Having appreciated such leading examples I aim to also impress the same excitement in my own teaching methods.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I consider the most important thing a tutor can do is to ensure the students are able to appreciate the studies they are undertaking. I feel the most important factor in learning is one's own motivation, and from personal experiences, this is linked with how much the subject is appreciated and enjoyed. Thus I recall how many students feel a subject is difficult based on how poorly they view the usefulness or relevance of a subject, so I think being able to present a topic in a positive manner will strongly motivate a student towards learning as best they can.

A little bit more work to do on being aware of ordering of coordinate points, which will help figuring out how the values go into the formulas quicker.

Some of the algebra still needs a bit more work to solve, as some of the steps still require some exploration of ideas. Recommend to identify patterns that occur while doing questions, so similar types of questions can be solved by patterns, rather than the minute steps of algebra required.

Ethan was able to follow the FOIL method very well, expansion of quadratic expressions were picked up well, particularly in putting the multiplications in the right order.
Some of the multiplications need a little more attention when negative values are involved. In particular, the notation is sometimes incorrectly written, which can lead to some issues when completing the mechanical work. Established a very methodical way of separating concerns, so the individual multiplications can be focused on separately.

On factoring quadratic expressions, the foundations were well done, and the method of solving the questions (Inner/outer addition/multiplication) were able to be followed well.
The more complicated factorisations still need some work, as the normal factoring method becomes more complicated. Effectively, the reverse of the FOIL method needs to be understood well to solve these types of questions. Recommend going through the foundation work to know it very well, and then expand upon that afterwards.
