What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I most enjoy tutoring the humanities, as that necessarily has critique built in. It's enjoyable to see creativity exhibited by students in these subjects, so much so that I can find myself being surprised and taken aback by the originality of thought in front of me. There, I think, you get the best possibility for a dynamic and progressive student-tutor relationship.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

First and foremost, my main strength would have to be patience. I think it is crucial to remember that each student develops at their own rate, so if I were to be a one-trick pony with my tutoring then that would merely isolate kids from the academic journey. Within this quality, compassion and empathy are also necessary, to hear the student and alter the course of tutoring to suit them. Having said all of this, there is a certain directness that is needed to keep things actually progressing. It is a fine line, but one I think I manage to balance, or at the very least stay aware of.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

As stated in the previous section, I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to listen. Although we are there to direct their study, there are a range of other things a student may face in their life. I'm not there just as an academic instructor, I also want to be able to relate to the person in front of me and assist them in more than just their studies. As you come into contact with each new student you have no idea the composition of the life that is before you. A tutor should be more than a tutor, they should be a mentor as well.
