What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy helping people understand difficult concepts in ways that feel intuitive to them, and I enjoy trying to find the best explanation of a given topic for and particular student.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Rather than teaching from a textbook directly, I try to teach things (maths especially) in a way that gets at the key intuition behind the concept. So not only would my students learn how to apply mathematical tools to solve problems and do well in exams, but they would also come away with a more fundamental understanding of the reasons why those methods work. This approach to teaching along with my enthusiasm for the subject would also make lessons engaging for students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is recognise what, precisely, the student is struggling with and to tailor explanations of concepts in ways that the student will respond to. For example, a major conceptual hurdle for high school students can be learning about logarithms for the first time. Often the root of confusion in this topic is a misunderstanding of exponential functions and the motivations behind the index laws. A good tutor ought to be able to recognise this more fundamental misunderstanding and alter their lessons accordingly.
