What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐
I enjoy taking the person I'm helping from being stuck and confused, to the aha moment of understanding the concept. It's rewarding to see people genuinely understand a topic that you have taught them, then to go on as see them do well in a test.
I love empowering people to feel confidence and capable with academics, having spent A LOT of time struggling when I was much younger I understand the frustration maths can pose when improperly prepared. My greatest hope and love for tutoring is to make people feel like mathematics and learning in general is easy, if you're willing to put in the study time. :D
I remember helping my brother learn trigonometry for the first time, it was truly enjoyable seeing him begin to grasp the idea. He would then go on to teach what he had learnt to his school friends, of course giving me credit for his understanding. :D
My Strengths as Tutor ๐ช
I am patient and understanding with people, I don't mind repeating myself and finding new ways to explain the same idea. When people rush you to learn something, they kill your interest in the subject and reduce your likelihood to ask genuine questions.
I am knowledgeable in mathematics topics, with a firm grasp of the fundamental ideas. This makes it easy for me to introduce concepts to people learning it for the first time, without confusing them in a cluster of formulas and rules.
I've become strong at mathematics through doing it at high levels, going through difficult STEM subjects at the University of Melbourne. What I have learnt is that while the maths does get more complicated, it doesn't need to get harder. I've learnt to avoid the grinding difficulty by getting on top of the work before tests roll around.
Most important things I can do for a student ๐
The key thing I aim to do with my students, is to empower them to learn and approach learning with confidence. The truth is that ANYBODY can do high school maths, right up to Specialist. I will fix the damage done to students through the following:
-Boring Teachers: Who read from the textbook in a dull fashion, failing to convey the concept or motivation of a particular problem set.
-Broken Study Habits: Ineffective/Inefficient study habits that waste time, cause frustration and lead to poor academic results.
I am confident that I can repair students study habits, retraining them to learn productively and get the grades they desire!
