Bearing witness to something 'clicking' in their head. You see the look in their eye where they've got it; no need to memorise 'steps', a whole load is taken off their chest. People forget how intuitive and smooth-sailing many english and maths problems can be with common sense; you use it everyday, so why wouldn't it be in the questions you tackle in school?My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I value common sense over memorising any day, and also that self-confidence is an essential tool that isn't developed enough in classrooms. I explain ideas where the student can get the logic behind it, and not use rules and formulas as a crutch for their shortcomings. Those shortcomings are their strengths in the making, but not through regurgitating facts and me passively giving them the answers.Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
To never answer a question for them, and to make them believe in themselves more than they ever have. I can give them the tools, and hint at possible directions they could take, and instil them with the confidence that they can solve this question themselves. If tutoring was reduced to answering questions on the student's behalf, they would only be as good as they were before they came to me.
