What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

It is very rewarding for me to teach a topic to a student or group of students that has not yet succeeded in this topic. I enjoy showing the students how and why they do not understand the topic. I can then show the students how to overcome and practice using the knowledge for the topic. The understanding and relief students show when they succeed in difficult tasks is very satisfying.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

My strengths as a tutor are my excellent communication skills. I have had much practice with verbal communication in my role as a PASS Leader. I have had to teach several PASS sessions every week during semester with my largest class comprised of 108 students for exam study. All this experience has given me excellent preparation in being able to communicate with students and their parents about the goals and grades that is wanted through my tutoring. I also have good time-management and organisational skills that have been developed and tested during my time as a PASS Leader.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to make sure a student can fully understand topics that have previously been difficult. I do not think it is not enough for a tutor to simply talk through the topic with the student and expect them to understand it. A tutor should explain the topic to the student and then, after more study and practice, ask the student to pretend to teach the topic to the tutor or any other person present. Edgar Dale’s Cone of Experience states that students generally have 90% memory retention when they teach students the topics they are learning.
