Marley hadn’t done this topic in a while so she’d forgotten how to find the equation of a line by finding the gradient and y-intercept, however with some practise, she was getting the hang of it. Linear equations is one of the harder topics In yr 9 maths since you need to have strong algebraic skills and a strong understanding of coordinate geometry, so she’s doing well. I gave Marley some worksheets to complete over the holidays which revises most topics learnt this year. I also recommend doing revision sets on Mathsonline for the topics Marley finds she needs most work on, and going over all the worksheets I’ve given her this term (although make sure to relax too since it’s a break for a reason :)
- Marley has a strong understanding of algebraic techniques and solving equations for a year 9 level - She understands probability well too.

Continued revision of these areas during the holidays would help Marley prepare for year 10: - Algebra: adding like terms, multiplying terms with indices, index laws, substitution. - Probability: finding probabilities of two events happening, complement rule P(A) + P(A’) = 1

- Zander’s really got the hang of long division now, and he has a good intuitive spatial awareness when drawing 3D shapes, and was able to correct the 3D shape when the sides/dimensions weren’t drawn correctly.
- Zander’s done really well this term, and has a very strong overall foundation for maths. Over the holidays, I’ve given him some word problem worksheets on adding/subtracting fractions and decimals, volume and capacity and money so he’s keeping active with the maths.
- I can tell Zander’s long division muscle memory is building strong since we’ve been focusing on it this term.

- Zander’s doing really well, next week we’ll just continue practising long division and work on drawing 3D shapes on isometric paper.
