I may be new to tutoring, but I am driven and very excited to help students reach their potential and provide them with the assistance they need to achieve it. The best kind of assistance a tutor can give is to support a student's needs and teach them to work without needing oversight from teachers or other support staff. A person can stand the tallest when they learn to stand by themselves. This does not mean that no support will be provided. Going through high school and seeing my friends struggle with schoolwork on top of everything else helped me understand that even though schoolwork may not be the most important thing, it can feel like it when a person has so much else to worry about. I want to be the tutor that helps relieve this stress by providing students with the skills and techniques needed to unlock their own knowledge and continue to thrive in the most exciting time of their teenage years.
Before tutoring, I had a background in customer service, which taught me the importance of patience, empathy, and effective communication, particularly when someone is struggling with understanding something. Using these skills in tutoring, I will be able to connect with students and understand what their struggles are, as well as effectively communicate with them the best way to change their thinking and help them understand the problem.
While I was in high school, I frequently volunteered at my local primary school as it was the same school I attended as a child, so I knew many of the teachers and students there. During this time, I would act as a teacher's aide, helping teachers with things during lessons and organising the store closets for the Christmas break and New Year. During these, I would often help and encourage students with any work that was being performed, as well as answering any questions the students may have if the teacher was busy.
