What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really enjoy watching people grow in skill and confidence in areas of weakness. I know it can be disheartening to perform poorly in areas in school, and I enjoy watching people develop to overcome that feeling.

About Kia
About Me!
My name is Kia and I am a second year student studying a Bachelor of Media and Communications, majoring in Biology at the University of Sydney. I have such a passion for learning and knowledge and find so much joy in helping people grow in their education. Some of my passions and interests include reading and movies (I minor in film studies!), snorkelling and diving, travel, and animal conservation and care. I am a really dedicated student and a naturally social person and I so keen to be able to help students grow in confidence!

In his homework of the first 3 paragraphs, he used good vocabulary, however, I am concerned how closely he worked in proximity to the original text as there were a few similarities. This was similar of another report he wrote about frogs which seemed like he had written it too similarly to his researching text.
He struggles to write independently after making a plan. He is able to plan things well and elaborate his thoughts, but when asked to actually write the paragraph himself, he seems to deviate far from the work we have just done He struggled a bit with this text type not being organised into thematic paragraphs like our other texts (like the chess one), finding it hard to pull out the big ideas Was challenged in conceptualising making his own topics of discussion for his essay rather than relying on structure the text is already in He has said he wants to do more with spelling and that he finds it challenging, but says the work is at school - maybe if he wants to, you can remind him to bring some spelling work back from school to work on? I don’t think lesson was a true reflection of his ability, he just seemed a little tired and so I feel this may be a one off

He really struggled with today’s lesson - he was sick earlier in the morning which I think can account for his lack of energy His report on frogs was very well done, but I wonder how much the research material influenced his writing style
He had a hard time conceptualising different techniques for sentence starters like using rhetoric questions and adverbs - often would confuse literary rhetoric questions for conversational questions Had issues with coming up with his own original sentence starters and catergorising different types of sentence starters

He had a great vocabulary He told me his writing had improved so much his teacher took his work to the principal and he got a sticker! Was able to write eloquently with help
Was able to write eloquently with help He needed a lot of help with writing, struggling to write independently Repition in words and sentence starters - next week we will look into that
He was able to spell words correctly when he realised that they were incorrect - he rushes too much when he writes and doesn’t consider spelling and punctuation
He was able to spell words correctly when he realised that they were incorrect - he rushes too much when he writes and doesn’t consider spelling and punctuation
His punctuation skills are weaker and he needed a lot of prompting to correct mistakes. His ability to identify structure needs work, but he is making good progress
