What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐
- personal satisfaction from guiding a student in successfully discovering the logical steps in a sequence they are inspired to commence in order to solve a problem, without pushing them with obvious statements or letting them 'borrow' the sequence from a tutor's mouth. I am inspired by Polya's How To Solve It pedagogy.
- empathy towards students who donโt understand material. Having been there many times, not understanding how to solve a problem is a frustrating place to be.
- fostering persistence as a core value in students. Coming from my encounters with problems that I could not solve for days, I really want to emphasise that the most important way out especially in maths is hardcore sticking to the problem, which I think far too few people appreciate.
My Strengths as Tutor ๐ช
I am ACTUALLY
- passionate about ensuring students understand material,
- willing to responsibly dedicate time to solve your child's outside-of-lesson concerns, academic problems, and essay-marking.
- communicative with peers and teachers about problems that I or others have.
- reliable and organised and will set a good role model for your student: for example, in my own schooling career, I made sure to routinely complete forty pages of weekly tutoring homework during weekends, which is not an exaggeration while, during the weekdays, I completed my school homework across all my subjects โ due to my schoolโs distinct system of training known as the Dalton Plan.
- no hesitation in dedicating hours to assist prospective students outside of the lesson.
- I am patient as well, having tutored students of various academic capabilities.
Most important things I can do for a student ๐
- Devoting voluntary extra time outside lesson hours to assist students.
- Building a good reciprocal tutor-student relationship so that learning process is engaging and not punishing or exhausting for either party. This ensures the student can be open with me about any academic concerns or material they need help with.
-Ensuring the student does not simply 'arrive' at the solution but somewhat 'devises' most of the solution to a problem. This is what makes a someone a critical thinker, so they can adapt well even to difficult questions that, at first glance, seem completely unfamiliar. I am, myself, very grateful that I have had a teacher to teach me that skill during my school life.
- I want to make sure the student sees the value and the beauty of the subject they study.
- Upon request, I also provide challenging material to extend students. It is essential to character-building and it makes them stronger.
