What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I find it personally rewarding to see others improve. Having received private tutoring myself I fully understand the particular challenges faced in the student-tutor dynamic - both sides of the coin. As such, I enjoy unravelling these challenges and the pinnacle of it: not those epiphanies by the student, but rather those moments when you realise they have grasped an idea and authentically understand it.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
As aforementioned, having received private tutoring myself I am well aware of the challenges students often faced. Since the 1 on 1 student-tutor dynamic is quite different and more fluid compared to the classroom environment, my strength lies in my ability to recognise both when a student is struggling to understand a concept and once they have understood it. There is a bridge between these two ideas and I prefer to think about the tutor as guiding the student across this bridge.
My own academic achievements, ambitions and efforts - in both their fruition and failures - have taught me much.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that foremost, the most important asset a tutor can offer their student is an external interest in helping them. Such an interest is beyond simply tutoring the student for the pay. Rather, I think it is quite evident when a tutor shows a genuine interest in supporting their student. Alongside this, a tutor should not shun any misconceptions or misunderstandings. Tutoring a student does not mean to shove them into the right understandings, but rather to help shape theirs into them. It means to not be dismissive and instead, empathetic.
