What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
- Helping students understand difficult concepts and gain confidence.
- Keeps me engaged with the material which helps me come up with new ways to explain it to others
- Forming strong relationships with the students in the hope of positively impacting their academic development.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I believe my strengths are varied. I am very patient and I do not try to rush the learning process, if concepts need to be revisited, I make sure that they get reviewed to ensure that they fully understand. I also know how to adapt my teaching to different students' learning styles. I also have great enthusiasm for the subjects I’m well-versed in, which motivates me and helps me create a more effective learning experience.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Providing clear explanations and encouraging confidence are very important when tutoring any student. I also believe encouraging students to think independently helps them better understand the material.

About Gemma
Who I am
I’m a 19-year-old university student who loves helping others learn in a way that actually makes sense to them. From my own experience, I know how frustrating it can be when things don’t click right away, which is why I’m patient and never rush through anything. I’m flexible in my teaching, always adjusting to fit how each student learns best. I have a lot of passion for the subjects I teach, and I try to make things fun and engaging by sharing that enthusiasm with my students.
What I Enjoy About Tutoring
What I really enjoy about tutoring is seeing someone finally “get it” after struggling with a tough concept. It’s a rewarding feeling to watch their confidence grow. It also pushes me to think of new ways to explain things, which keeps tutoring exciting for me, too. Building connections with students is a big part of why I love tutoring—I want them to feel supported and confident in their learning.
My Approach to Tutoring
When I tutor, I focus on giving clear, easy-to-follow explanations while helping students believe in themselves. I also encourage them to think on their own, which not only helps them understand the material better but also builds their independence and self-confidence.
I encourage them to ask questions and think for themselves, helping them become more confident and independent.

We reviewed the 7 times table and worked on the 9 times table and square numbers as she mentioned having started them in class. I was very pleased with her progress on the 7 times table, with and without flash cards. However, we did have to go over how to do addition and subtractions on paper as some parts were not well understood.
I recommend going over all the times tables from 2-7 whenever you can, just to keep up the practice, because sometimes I might ask her 2x7 for example, and she does struggle to tell me when I am sure she knows the answer. It seems that the visual mnemonic/flashcards help her remember as she performs very well, almost instantly, when we use them, whereas, if we're doing purely oral exercises, it is. a bit harder for her. As I said before I will try to prepare more permanent flashcard-type things rather than the ones we make during the session, over the next couple of weeks for the holidays, that she can use whenever she's practising. I think it would also be beneficial to keep working orally with her whenever you get the chance, as it will help strengthen her ability to recall the facts independently and transfer what she’s memorised visually into more confident recall.
We did a few multiplication exercises to see if writing them down helped to memorise and then we continued reciting them.

She's still getting a bit confused with some of them.
I was content with her review of the 4s. We went over the 5 once and I was also happy with her level so we started the 6s

No need to improve, just to keep practicing in her free time.
We made some quick little flashcards and some have visuals to help her remember. Evie remembers what they mean.
