What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really do enjoy that lightbulb moment when someone understands what I'm teaching them, especially through a creative activity I've prepared. I love the challenge of quickly adapting my teaching style to suit unique styles of learning. I also enjoy exchanging life experiences and inspiring each other not only to keep learning interesting topics but to keep connecting and helping others.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor include my patience and empathy. I have had experience with very stressed students in university and I always excelled at creating a fun environment for them. I am able to relate and empathise with the suffering that can come with meeting deadlines and feeling rushed to deeply understand a topic before an exam. I am an optimistic individual with a high level of confidence and communication skills developed through experience in leadership roles.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is consistently building them up. Using positive reinforcement in a genuine tone can really mean a lot to someone who is struggling and motivates them to learn more. I think a tutor should always let the student guide their lessons to encourage independent study and communicate to discover their favourite ways to review content. A good tutor leaves their student feeling relieved and satisfied with their progress.

Milly was in a great mood today. Working through the time-telling questions today went well as she understood that 60 minutes divided up to make each section be worth 5 minutes of time which explains the clock-hand positions.
A high level of guidance is needed to understand what the questions are asking. Therefore Milly will need to work on how to uncover the purpose of a question as it will confirm if she needs to add or divide or multiple etc. This can be done by restating the question in your own terms and drawing a diagram.
Milly seems to be understanding time conversion a lot better after splitting AM and PM and explaining the difference of 12 (4+12 = 1600 (4pm)).

Reading timetables can be quite tricky for her to do as well as budgeting - doing multiple questions on this topic would be great for next time.
Milly was super happy today. She went well in time-telling and could answers questions a lot quicker than the previous lesson. Using the plastic clock helps a lot.

Working out how much change is given is an ongoing goal, as well as understanding that the hour hand will be between the current time and the next hour.

She does need more practice on times tables and place value to make sure the right numbers are being added together. We also should work on division more.
