What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I love helping people understand concepts that were formerly out of their grasp. There’s no better feeling than seeing someone get out of the rut of frustration they had been stuck by helping them see the way through. It is also a good way to improve your people skills, meet interesting people, and learn a lot yourself.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

I have experience tutoring a very difficult computer science class at UCSD, in which I would often receive questions that I initially did not understand, so I would have to be able to work with a student to understand where they were hitting trouble and help them find their own process to continue. I’m also a good relator, very patient with students, and have a good grasp on visualising mathematics to help a student understand a concept rather than just get a problem right.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

Being patient and thorough in their explanation. Getting one problem correct doesn’t necessarily show a complete understanding of a topic, so ensuring they fully grasp a concept before moving on is essential. Being positive and encouraging is also important, as many people simply lack confidence in themselves which leads to errors. Being able to see the problem from the students perspective is invaluable for helping them, since showing them your method might not always be the best fit for them. It is also important to create an environment in which the student feels comfortable making mistakes
