What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The most enjoyable aspect for me in tutoring is the one on one connections I can make with students. The process of teaching in effective ways is extremely rewarding, since it can make a great difference in increasing their self confidence and academic performance. Being a part of students journey, and addressing their individual concerns develops a sense of trust and connection, which makes tutoring extremely meaningful to me.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths lie in being a great communicator, as I have practiced this through leadership roles in high school. Being able to deliver ideas to other students has been a duty I've always been trusted with my my teachers, and representing student voice as a Student Representative Council leader has given me first hand experience in addressing and resolving student concerns. I also believe that I have developed strong problem solving skills in the process, as well as organisation and clarity when presenting information.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Using a wide range of techniques to explain concepts, such as with examples, diagrams, real life applications and sometimes even a simple step by step approach can make a huge difference towards solidifying a student's understanding of a subject. As content can be accessed by textbooks and videos, it is crucial for a tutor to go a step further and apply a strategy that doesn't only break down concepts into simple ideas but is also a fun perspective to learn from. Moreover, providing additional questions, both exam style and open ended can be a good challenge and strengthen students learning.

- Grace remembered a lot of the previous chapters, since she could apply it to this topic we studied today. This shows she has developed a strong understanding of linear relations from the past few classes. - Despite the class being online, and the one week gap, the class ran smoothly. Grace participated and actively listened/discussed, and was comfortable with solving basic algebra equations as well (for finding intercepts).
- Fractions concepts can be practiced further. Will bring fraction based questions to jog memory, so that she can remember how it is used in the long run in other maths topics.
- Grace picked up the concepts in this chapter very well, and thought actively when reading and understanding worded questions.

- Being more attentive to what a word problem is asking for (picking up one sentence at a time, referring back to a question for information needed to answer). - Performing calculations with decimals, dividing fractions can be further improved. Thinking more about how to simplify an answer, and performing some calculations by hand instead of a calculator is good practice, and something I'll help Grace to focus towards in future classes.

- Grace was comfortable understanding how the gradient is calculated. - She has also asked questions that were intuitive based, and I highly encourage Grace to continue learning by asking these kinds of questions. - Grace did a problem solving question correctly without my help, and I'm very happy she was able to apply the learnings to a worded question.
- Finding the rise and run can be improved, for questions where a graph is provided. Will be improved with more practice, nothing major to worry about!

- Grace did exceptionally well with using her knowledge of operating on positive and negative numbers for calculating gradients. - She asked a lot of questions to intuitively understand the material, which is impressive and a skill I highly encourage her to continue. - Using a ruler for graphing, and appropriately scaling the measurements in her graphing notebook is a good practice, and one that Grace has been consistently doing.
- Applying fractions to other topics in Maths (for eg: with gradients, swapping the rise and run around in the fraction will significantly change the answer). As we encounter gradient questions, it would be an awesome opportunity for Grace to grow more comfortable with associating dividing with fractions. - I encourage Grace to read questions carefully and slowly. This is something she will improve on in the long run instead of immediately, by doing practice questions individually and with my guidance as well. It is normal and common to feel lost and confused when reading a question, but to give it a second read and understand it in small parts are steps I hope for her to practice across her subjects (but especially maths). We have started practicing this though today, and I will continue to help her practice this in future classes too.
