What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most about tutoring is the opportunity to witness firsthand the growth and progress of the students that I am teaching. There’s a unique satisfaction that comes from helping someone understand a concept that they previously struggled with. I love creating those 'aha' moments where everything clicks for the student, and seeing their confidence grow as a result.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths as a tutor include my patience, adaptability, and deep understanding of the subjects I teach. I pride myself on being able to be patient when I teach others. My extensive background in english especially allows me to teach people well.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think it is crucial that a tutor builds good rapport with their student. They also need to be patient with the student and have good understanding. They should also focus on creating a supportive work environment that is positive.

A key positive aspect was that the student made a genuine effort to complete the homework, even though it wasn’t fully finished. Her attempt indicates that she’s committed to setting aside time for her tutoring assignments, which is a good habit to foster. Another significant improvement is in her communication; she’s becoming more comfortable articulating her thought process, which allows me to better understand where she’s struggling and how to support her. Additionally, she successfully wrote her introduction paragraph by herself during the session, showing progress in her ability to apply what we’ve been working on.
While the student is making progress, there are still a few key areas that need improvement. First, she needs to work on constructing a strong thesis statement to provide a clear argument or direction in her essays. This will help guide her writing and make her arguments more focused. Additionally, her body paragraphs require more detailed explanations and examples to fully support her points. This includes expanding on her ideas and ensuring each paragraph ties back to the thesis. She also tends to rush through certain parts of her writing, which affects the depth of her analysis. We will need to focus on developing her ability to write with more depth and clarity, particularly in her supporting evidence and transitions between ideas.

I encouraged her to write the third body paragraph on her own, and she exceeded expectations by producing a well-structured and coherent piece. Her independent work showed a strong understanding of the material we’ve been covering, which is a positive step in building her confidence and writing skills. Additionally, we managed to complete our planned tasks ahead of schedule, leaving extra time to focus on additional writing prompt exercises. Given her request for help with essay writing, this provided a valuable opportunity to work on areas she feels less confident about, giving her more practice in developing her ideas.
One area that needs improvement is staying on top of assigned homework. She forgot to complete last week’s homework, which hindered her progress slightly. To address this, I plan to start sending reminder texts before our sessions to help her stay on track and ensure that she’s consistently practicing between lessons. This small adjustment should help her build better habits and reinforce the skills we are working on during our tutoring sessions.

Although she was a bit shy at the start, which is typical for a first session, she gradually became more comfortable as we progressed. She demonstrated a proactive attitude by taking notes in a separate Google document and even using Google to search for answers to some of her questions. This showed her willingness to engage with the material and seek out solutions independently. Her increasing comfort level and initiative are positive signs that she is eager to improve and make the most of our sessions.
There were moments during the lesson when she seemed to wait for me to provide answers rather than attempting to find them on her own. While it's important to guide her, encouraging more independent problem-solving will be crucial for her development. Over time, helping her build confidence in her ability to find answers and articulate her thoughts, particularly in essay writing, will be key areas for growth. We can work on strategies to boost her autonomy and self-assurance in tackling academic tasks.

This session showed significant progress in his understanding and engagement. He actively communicated his confusion from the previous lesson, specifically about loops and faces, which allowed us to address these areas more effectively. By using diagrams and visual aids, we were able to clarify these concepts, and he responded positively to this approach. His school notes were also more detailed and comprehensive compared to earlier weeks, reflecting a greater effort in capturing the material. This indicates that he is becoming more invested in his learning process, taking initiative, and beginning to develop better study habits, all of which are promising signs of his ongoing improvement.
He took longer to complete the questions this session and relied heavily on me to provide a lot of hints to guide him through the problems. This indicates that he may still be struggling to apply the concepts independently and might need additional practice or a different approach to fully grasp the material. While it's important to support his learning, encouraging him to attempt solving problems on his own with minimal intervention could help build his confidence and problem-solving skills. We may need to revisit these topics with more targeted exercises or break them down into smaller steps to ensure he can work through them more effectively on his own.
