What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

The thing I most enjoy about tutoring is the fact it gives you the opportunity to positively influence a child’s life. By building a strong relationship with your student, you can build their confidence and foster feelings of competence and autonomy within them. These feelings will ultimately encourage the student to persist in a subject they struggle with, and may even help them in the future. I also really enjoy studying Mathematics; I love to share this feeling with my students once they realise they can do it too, and there is no shame in making mistakes along the way!

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My main strengths as a tutor would be my subject knowledge, communication skills and team working skills. As a Mathematics student at the UNSW, I have an understanding of the fundamentals of Mathematics and can use this to explain structures to my students in a way that is easy to follow. I’ve tutored children from ages 11-18, both online and in person, and completed a teaching internship. My role of preparing and delivering exciting mathematical activities in a way that motivates my students to learn and engage really helped to develop my teamworking and communication skills.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student would be to build that child’s confidence when it comes to a particular subject. As a tutor, we have the power to influence a child’s perspective on their abilities and if we can enhance the feelings of competence and autonomy, this can help encourage them to stay motivated in a subject they find difficult. Being friendly and approachable is also really important as a tutor, so the student doesn’t feel embarrased.
