What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
Do not have tutoring experience but teaching others seems like something I would enjoy. Mostly just sharing knowledge and helping others succeed.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
Mostly my knowledge. Besides that, I also prefer to (at least in my mind) adapt to the student's learning style and try to improve in their way.
In terms of knowledge (using ATAR as baseline):
Maths - I did Methods decently.
Information Technology - I got second in state
Software Design/Development - Assuming its coding, I have good knowledge on its core basics, I can use Python, C, Java
Most important things I can do for a student π
- Preparation is important and planning for what to do in the lessons is important, shows care in a way
- Tackle weak points - teaching new content is fine, but I think it is good to follow the pace of the student
- Freedom and space of the student, give them the room to think and explore

I scaled the algebra difficulty down somewhat and this was good for practice and Fergus understands the concept in this area quite well. Went through some pattern recognition which took some time but taught Fergus some techniques. Fractions he seems to be getting used to again.
Needs to improve his seven times tables. Needs to improve his ability to try something, verbalise it, or at least write his thought process down. Maybe he's not confident enough with his work. His understand of decimal and percentage is dropping a bit, needs to really understand why tens and hundredth places exist and what they mean. Translating between word questions and math needs some practice.

Algebra wise - the concept of switching is gradually settling in. When he concentrates, he should be able to solve most algebra problems including ones with negative numbers. He can determinate algebra word problems better. Fergus has also learnt about recurring numbers.
Basic arithmetic wise - his numbers are still a weaker point. Needs to gain stronger foundation (basic multiplication, division, operations with large numbers, etc.). Also, of even, odd, prime numbers. He needs to practice the concepts more as it seems he quickly forgets (in this case) fractions which we have been going through the past five weeks at least. His percentage understanding might take time. Algebra - needs to understand how to reverse multiply and division.

Understands the switching of algebra, moving terms between sides better. Understands addition of decimals better. Understands the negatives in algebra in terms of number lines a lot better. Grasped the concept of percentage simplification a bit.
Needs to work on general arithmetics. Needs to not jump in his working out. Needs to understand his tens and the zero in numbers a lot better. His algebra is good, but he needs to apply previous learning to his algebra - right now it is very fixed - for example simplification of fractions can be done in algebra too - but he avoids this. Needs to review recurring values and stating "dp" in answers.

Algebra went well in general. The idea of switching sides not only for addition/subtraction, but also multiplication and division was more enforced in this lesson. A lot of practice in this area. We also did quite a few decimal operations.
Needs more understanding on percentage operations, and shortcuts to quickly identify ways to get certain answers to these equations. Decimal - needs to know where to place decimal in equations. Algebra - needs generally more practice and confidence with switching variables, knowing how to break down an equation one step at a time. Also general reading to algebra questions - needs to understand his own break down process, for simpler questions it works, but complex questions might confuse him when skips steps too much.
