What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Having tutored in my high school's tutoring programme, my favourite part about tutoring is the results. The student's achieving their academic goals and persevering in school as well as the new found sense of confidence they gain in themselves, discovering that they have what it takes to excel in school.My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my strengths as a tutor is being patient with the students and working for them to be comfortable with the process that works for them. Having experience with children in a volunteering setting has allowed me to develop the ability to adapt and find more creative ways to get the wanted results, which in this context would be the mentee's learning goals.Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Be patient and understanding and realise that each student has different needs, and that the best way to help each student is to alter the tutoring experience to they needs. - Although Carter can use algorithms well, the only thing limiting him is that his grasp of timetables is not strong. - 6-9 times tables, he can only recall the first half most of the time and struggles to recall the rest without help. - To help with this, we will practice 6-9 times tables every week by timing how long it takes him to complete each one and continue to work towards decreasing the time taken to complete them week by week. - We are continuing to work on maintaining focus during our sessions, and have been taking short breaks after Carter completes a section of his homework. The breaks are 2-3 minutes long depending on how long is has been since his last one, and how is focus is that day - this gives him enough time to stretch, have some movement, have a quick play break, to refresh before he gets back to work.

- We completed all the maths homework for the week, as well as completing one of his spelling excercises. - Carter, despite having some trouble focussing was quick to correct his mistakes, especially in his maths, and can answer big addition and subtraction questions. We also completed some of his spelling homework where Carter was able to recognise the mistakes in the text and correct the spellings.
- There were times where Carter missed some of the grammar faults in his spelling exercises, but he was able to identify them after some reminding to have another look. - As was expected, there were times where Carter was not able to focus, however this was only for a short period of time and was only frequent every 15ish minutes. As we know Carter has ADHD so this was expected and we will on accommodating some short breaks into the session next week to help maintain his focus.
