What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Although I haven’t officially tutored anyone, just some friends and classmates who struggled with maths, I found it really rewarding when they finally understood a concept after I tried to explain it in different ways. I think it’s interesting how people have such different learning techniques and ways of understanding a concept so you have to try explain in a way they understand, which in turn just allows you to expand your own understanding of the topic.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I would like to say I’m very empathetic when people struggle with a topic, as I understand what it’s like to not be able to grasp a concept that seems so easy to others, since we all have our own strengths.
I am also very flexible, and tried to teach my classmates in a way that catered their own way of understanding, rather than what works for me. Additionally, this taught me that it’s important to be patient with people you are teaching, as it’s hard to learn in an environment where you feel like the teacher is getting frustrated you aren’t understanding something.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think that whilst having adaptive teaching methods is important, ensuring the student constantly feels supported and motivated by the tutor is vital. For me, in school no matter how much I was struggling (especially in maths) I found that having a great, understanding teacher, allowed me to not be afraid of asking ‘stupid’ questions. So for the student to just feel comfortable in their learning environment is crucial to help motivate them and fully open up to learning.
