What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

My previous experience in tutoring has been informally teaching my friends guitar. What I enjoy most about tutoring is transferring the joy of the hobby or practice to the student. In the end, it feels like I nurture another person to share one of my favourite things with. With guitar, the points where my friends would "get it" and begin jamming along, "catching the bug", were some of the greatest and most rewarding experiences in my life.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

My greatest strength is my ability to listen. I believe first in understanding the student before prescribing solutions. Often, in a student's confusion, there is a deeper insight into the nature of a problem. Working through this bump in the road and smoothing it is always a great experience for the student.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

Without repeating myself, I would re-iterate that it's the capacity to listen before teaching. While I have enjoyed learning from say, a martial arts instructor who barks orders, mathematics and education is much different, an engagement of the student's mind. Refusing to understand can build resentment toward an entire subject; I've met plenty of people who say they "hate" maths and it saddens me: their teachers must have never really tried to teach, rather just prescribe. I believe working on the foundational enjoyment of the subject, generating passion, takes care of most student's problems
