What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Being able to share my knowledge and able to see and experience the growth and improvement of my students, both in their confidence and their knowledge of their studies.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I’ve been on both sides of the coin. I went to a multitude of tutoring & coaching schools throughout senior high, so I know what differs helpful tutors & smart tutors. Helpful tutors teach from the student’s perspective, & cater all content to fit the student’s needs & interests. Smart tutors may only explain the content without truly understanding the student. I cater all work from their perspective, by making sure we tick all the boxes necessary to catch up & keep up with the work, but also make sure they’re having fun & enjoying studying rather than having it as a compulsory activity.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe it is extremely important for a tutor to have similar hobbies or experiences to the student so that the student feels comfortable and safe by taking out the power balance many often feel between their tutor or teacher. This also helps as content taught in our sessions will flow better, and create more engagement from the student. Having a connection as a mentor or tutor will help the student to be more confident in their dreams or goals, and be able to have more self esteem in their studies and in themselves too.

Brandon is mostly confident in all the questions and bravely challenges himself to them in an exam manner. It is good to see him adjusting to using a highlighter although this needs to become a permanent/long-term habit. Eager to learn new methods
Please read all the questions and colour code! The questions will always tell you what kind of answer they're looking for, so by memorising and acknowledging these verbs, you will be able to save a lot of time and efforts because you would know what to write down. Handwriting is sometimes illegible - it is unhelpful and often times marked down because the examiner cannot read what you wrote. Please also slow down and read what the question asks - sometimes questions want a conversion or a certain format, so careful reading is crucial!

Brandon has informed me he finds last week's papers to be challenging but enjoyable. I believe he works better by learning through the process of trial and error with these past papers. Today's paper is from the 2024 GCSE surds paper. It is more challenging than other papers as this is the equivalent of year 11 advanced maths however Brandon is very confident and eager to solve.
I'm glad to see Brandon using more colours to help him read the question but perhaps he needs to get into the habit more often so that it becomes automatic for him. Handwriting is still sometimes illegible so do be careful of that. Sound efficiency of surds with trigonometry - more practice with applied surds knowledge will help. I wish Brandon all the best in his studies for this year and sincerely hope he reaches his dream of being in the first class.

Veronica works best under some time pressure as she does quite well timed during her weekly times tables quiz. She also does fairly well in the homework; significant improvement in word problems since last week. Highlighting the key words has significantly helped her understanding. I wish Veronica all the best in her studies this year and the next.
While she is great at the times tables quiz, she does not reciprocate that knowledge into multiplication with 2 x 3 or 2 x 4 digits, nor is it shown in long division. She understands and sees the connections now but it does not process thoroughly so there are some silly errors still. As I have mentioned in past sessions, she needs to work down the page with long division to avoid making silly errors. It would also be in her best interest to hold the concentration longer to improve her time efficiency.

The main thing I had noticed in Brandon's exam paper was the consistency of ECF which evidently showed that he either rushed through or did not proofread his answers. To avoid small errors such as rounding or conversions, I highly insist Brandon start highlighting his practice questions by colour coding the key words. Once this becomes a habit, his brain will automatically apply this 'filter' into his exams and he will be able to read the questions more carefully. I also recommend that in future exams, he start from the last question as they usually classify whether or not a student is band 6 or 5/worth the most marks, so generally students should spend the most time on the last 2-3 questions. More practice in general will also help with the time management.
