I think the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is listen. Listen to their problem, why they may not understand a concept, and then help to solve the problem together. I think that having fun, is also very important. One of my main goals aside from helping a student understand the content, is to help the student enjoy the…

I think the most important things a tutor can do is to make the content understandable rather than just helping to memorise it. But also to normalise mistakes and to assert the importance of educated guessing. Any student can learn faster by giving something a go rather than waiting until they are certain. I believe I can explain and break down…

I really believe that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is be patient towards them and make them feel comfortable to keep asking for help again and again. Inside ThrosbyTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Sam worked on writing improvement by focusing on clear sentence formation and reviewing the course outline.

For Year 9, Emily practiced solving simultaneous equations and completed revision on quadratics using worked examples.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Daniel covered the basics of differentiation—including power rule and first principles—and tackled applications of the sine and cosine rules in trigonometry problems.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8, a student often arrived without their maths notebook or past test papers, which made it difficult to review errors and build on feedback—one tutor noted, "student forgot to take notes for half the lesson."

Meanwhile, in Year 10, another completed homework at 3am and struggled to understand working out until hints were given.

A senior student found remembering key terms under pressure challenging during quizzes and spent triple the target time on tasks due to organization issues.

When mock tests weren't finished beforehand in Year 11, class time was used catching up instead of clarifying sticking points.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Throsby recently noticed a Year 11 student who used to freeze up under test pressure now talking herself through tough problems aloud and checking her answers, which has helped her stay calm and finish practice quizzes with fewer mistakes.

In Year 10 maths, another student who once hesitated to try unfamiliar worded questions now explains each step out loud before solving them and managed to complete an entire non-calculator past paper almost entirely on her own.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student completed all their homework problems for the first time without reminders or extra help.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Gungahlin Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Throsby School.
