A tutor should make the student feel supported, understood, and confident. It’s not just about giving answers—it’s about helping them think independently, stay motivated, and believe in their ability to learn and improve. I’m patient, a good listener, and able to explain things in a simple, relatable way. I adapt my approach based on each…

Individuality. As I have spent time as a basketball coach and a chemistry tutor. In this time I have learnt how different people intake knowledge and how different people need support. It has to come from my intention to teach and improve the student's quality of life. Without it, teaching will be bland, inauthentic, and forgettable. It also has to come from giving students the ability to think and solve challenging problems by themselves. Without it, the student will not develop independency or grit to solve life's ordeal. One…

The most important thing a tutor must do for a student is listening. To me, there's a big difference between listening and hearing someone. Hearing is simply the ability to use your ears. However being able to listen to the student, understanding where they are coming from is a whole new skill. Math has always been one of my strongpoints back in…

Teach student life. Being kind human is better than an arrogant genius. I look up to my mentors, who not only taught me skills, but also gave me their thoughts and their experience. Inside New FarmTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Ben practised identifying and writing sentences with metaphors, similes, and personification to boost creative language skills.

For Year 11, Ella worked through her Maths Essentials assignment—focusing on completing the conclusion section—and reviewed feedback for her English IA2 task.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Jack explored chemical stoichiometry by balancing equations and briefly reviewed a recent maths assignment for clarity.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student often arrived unprepared, with forgotten materials and assignments, which made it difficult to settle quickly into lessons.

In Year 10 Maths, he skipped showing steps in algebra, which hid sign errors, resulting in more time spent retracing calculations than progressing.

A senior Chemistry student became sidetracked by unrelated physics content during revision, leading to incomplete review of essential topics before an upcoming assessment.

Meanwhile, a Year 11 English draft was overloaded with information but lacked clear referencing—feedback given wasn't fully addressed in the final submission, leaving assignment requirements unmet and creating last-minute stress.

Recent Achievements

One New Farm tutor noted that a Year 11 student who had previously hesitated to ask for help is now openly seeking clarification during sessions, making it much easier to target her learning needs.

In a recent Year 9 session, a student who struggled with focus earlier in the term stayed engaged through the whole lesson and completed his assignment draft with only minor corrections needed.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 student showed new independence by attempting every question unprompted in his maths test—something he avoided before—and finished the series pattern problems entirely on his own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as New Farm Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Holy Spirit School.
