I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to be consistent. The tutor needs to be calm, understanding and they need to have the students best interests at heart. I have a lot of patience, I understand that everyone has strengths and weaknesses and that everything can be learnt. Everyone has the capability, some people just…

Ultimately, the most important things a tutor can do for a student are provide academic guidance, human connection, and consistency, and the combination of these factors can potentially reinvent a class, subject, or school more broadly for a young learner. Some qualities of a good tutor include skills in communication, listening, collaboration,…

I believe tutoring helps students develop a genuine love for learning. There are 2 characteristics a tutor needs to achieve this. Firstly, the tutor should have an open and friendly personality. Learning is inherently effortful, and having someone friendly to guide the process makes it more enjoyable and productive. Additionally, tutors need to…

I think understanding each student is an important part to tutoring, and being able to motivate each student into learning for themselves should be the ultimate goal for any teacher. I've had some teachers that did that for me and I have them remembered always. I think students would like me. I'm easygoing and try to make the content appealing,…

Educators play an important role in how students minds are shaped and how they approach problems in their studies. Believing in students that they can achieve their goal is one of the most important aspects of teaching them so it encourages them to strive towards their goal rather than realise they aren't capable enough. Watching them set out a…

Being respectful is one of the best ways to connect with a student, and allows students room to speak up about any issues they are having. Having good management skills will ensure students are taught with well prepared content, and also be heared with appropriate after class learning material to prepare for the next lesson. Very good…

Inside LoganleaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Zane focused on mastering multiplication tables and exploring basic angles, using memory maths activities alongside written practice.

For Year 8, Lucas worked through arithmetic with negative numbers and the order of operations, plus square roots and factors, mainly via targeted problem sets.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Sam tackled probability topics like conditional probability and tree diagrams, as well as solving linear equations in algebraic contexts.

Recent Challenges

A Year 3 student arrived at the lesson without homework completed and could only participate for half the session due to fatigue, which limited progress on multiplication and division skills.

In Year 10 algebra, a strong ability to solve questions was observed, but working steps were not shown—"he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps"—leading to sign errors that took extra time to find.

A senior student in trigonometry hesitated with formula selection and frequently relied on checking with the tutor rather than building independent confidence.

Recent Achievements

One Loganlea tutor noted a big change in a Year 10 student who, after initially staying quiet when confused, now actively points out tricky parts of math questions—making it much easier to clear up misunderstandings on the spot.

A senior student recently worked through calculus rate-of-change problems; where he used to hesitate, he's now using formulas independently and solving most questions correctly.

Meanwhile, a Year 5 student who struggled with mental addition and regrouping has started finishing written problems accurately, up to thousands, with far fewer errors than before. Last week, she completed her homework independently without needing extra reminders.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marsden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Loganlea State High School.
