Needless to say, students, especially those in their teenage years tend to struggle with their hormones and volatile emotions. The best a tutor can do is to never give up on a student and be understanding of their situation. Once that trust is built, it creates a healthier and more productive space for learning. In my opinion, a great teacher,…

I believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to build their confidence, make learning feel approachable, and provide clear strategies for problem-solving. A good tutor should not only explain the subject but also help the student develop independent learning skills they can use beyond the classroom. My strengths as a tutor…

Inside KurunjangTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 12 student Sarah worked through **galvanic cells and balanced chemical equations**, then clarified the differences between exothermic and endothermic reactions using real-world examples.

In Year 9, Daniel focused on interpreting **displacement-time and velocity-time graphs**, as well as applying Newton's second law (F=ma) and equations of motion for constant acceleration.

For Year 2, Aaylah practised reading comprehension with fiction texts, tackled **basic addition and subtraction problems**, and began learning how to read time from an analogue clock.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student hesitated to attempt several basic quiz questions, with notes describing "quite a few questions that Zoe was hesitant to approach and answer"—this reluctance led to missed opportunities for feedback and practice during the session.

In Year 8 algebra, one student calculated mentally but avoided writing out steps, which made it hard to pinpoint errors; as noted, "needs to learn how to write out step by step."

Meanwhile, a primary student resisted brainstorming messily in English tasks, fearing imperfect ideas on the page. This hesitation often left pages nearly blank until prompted—anxiety about mistakes sometimes overshadowed progress.

Recent Achievements

One Kurunjang tutor noticed a big shift with Aaylah (Year 3), who used to skip words or lose focus during reading, but now sounds out unfamiliar words herself and manages double-digit addition with little help after practicing on the whiteboard.

In high school maths, Kaan (Year 8) moved from confusion about statistics to independently applying strategies for mean, mode, median, and range—something he couldn't do before without reminders.

Meanwhile, Colin (Year 9) went from struggling to organise his creative writing ideas to drafting a migration story using his own brainstormed questions and structure.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Melton Library & Learning Hub—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kurunjang Primary School.
