The most prominent thing is to work according to the level of child. For example, some students love to study through animations and some by real world examples and also some by doing practicals or activities. Hence; its the duty of a tutor to find the way of teaching that interacts a student and make it interesting for a child to explore that…

Students that seek tutoring often do so because their school classroom does not offer attention to individual needs of the student. As a tutor I feel it is crucial to cater to your students needs so they can excel. This includes; encouraging a growth mindset, developing confidence in tackling challenges, and fostering independence. As a tutor I am…

In my high school days, i went to alot of tutors and i learned the difference between a good and a bad tutor. Bad tutors i believe stay within the box, afraid to go out and expose the students true potential. A good tutor can not only help the student keep on track of school work and assist in any difficulties the student may have, but also push…

I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is teach a student how to be conscientious in their work, how to learn effectively and efficiently, and problem solve for themselves. These traits are important life skills that can be gained through education/schooling that they will inevitably have to apply in their maturation into…

Making sure that the student is comfortable and not to push them so soon into the problems and questions - ease them into the subject. If they are already "good" at the subject, then it comes down to being there to cultivate their skill with them. Ensuring the students understand first, then applying the fundamentals. I am a big advocate for…

I think a tutor needs to be patient and easy going in a way that students can be comfortable with, and question things they feel unable to question in their school classroom. I think tutors need to teach their students the importance of practice and resilience, especially in VCE. English is a subject which takes lots of practice and dedication, it…

Studying techniques, creating good habits and of course, feedback for improvements! These are the important aspects that a tutor should show their students. A tutor can create a healthy learning environment, where their student is able to contribute and ask questions without hesitation. The most important things a tutor can do are build confidence, make learning feel manageable, and create a safe space where students are not afraid to make mistakes. Inside Kings ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Ashan focused on identifying and solving problems with complementary, supplementary, corresponding, alternate, co-interior, and vertically opposite angles using diagrams, as well as revisiting algebra basics and working through long division from the Year 8 textbook.

Another Year 7 student spent time planning and improving a TEEL essay paragraph for an argument analysis prompt about school uniforms and practiced public speaking skills during a mock debate.

For Year 6, Amish worked on converting decimals to fractions and multiplying decimals, alongside exploring persuasive writing techniques like emotive language and hyperbole in short essays.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student repeatedly avoided showing working in algebra, relying on mental calculations—"I can do this in my head," he said—which led to confusion and errors, especially when solving equations under test pressure.

In English, the same student struggled to organize ideas clearly in essays; mind maps were suggested to help structure arguments but follow-through was inconsistent.

Meanwhile, a Year 4 learner hesitated to attempt word problems independently until step-by-step guidance was provided.

In both cases, not engaging fully with feedback or written process slowed progress and left gaps when revisiting past material during revision sessions.

Recent Achievements

One Kings Park tutor noticed a real shift with Ashan, a Year 7 student who used to mix up angle types and lose marks on tests—after targeted practice, he now explains his reasoning out loud and confidently corrects his own mistakes during lessons.

Another high schooler recently tackled long division and negative numbers independently for the first time, only needing help with larger divisors—a big change from previous hesitation with complex calculations.

Meanwhile, a younger student who started off slow with factors is now finishing factor-finding activities without reminders and even volunteers answers before being prompted.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Deer Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Copperfield College-Kings Park Junior Campus.
