I believe the most important thing is to have a routine, be reliable, and to have the student be a part of every decision in their learning. My time with a student is not about a test or exam. It is about creating the skills for a student to be able to improve as they move through school and beyond. This is something that is going to be…

Support and patience. Trying to force too many things at once can only frustrate somebody attempting to better themselves, following a pace the student is best learning at is crucial. Frustration and not grasping an idea or a concept can lead to giving up, which is why support and again patience are key. I'm reliable, patient and easy to talk to.…

A tutor needs to be their every week and ontime. A tutor must plan lessons that meet the needs and goals of the student. A tutor must be able to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a student and plan the lesson and the program so the student can meet the learning needs of the student. Knowing the student. Assessing strengths and weaknesses…

The most important thing an english tutor can do for a student is to understand the needs of their student and develop effective resources that work for THAT student. It is also important to recognise what kind of work load people are capable of handling so that you do not overwhelm them with tasks, as this would be counterproductive. So I guess,…

Inside KanwalTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 5 student Ryan worked on converting fractions to decimals and multiplying fractions, using visual aids to clarify each step.

In Year 8, Ava focused on graphing linear and non-linear equations as well as practicing volume calculations for prisms.

For Year 10, Daniel tackled trigonometry concepts including calculating ratios and applying them to right-angled triangles, alongside an introduction to financial maths covering interest amounts and time periods.

Recent Challenges

In Year 8 algebra, one student often avoided writing out steps for problems with brackets and signs; as the tutor observed, "he missed sign changes by skipping working."

In Year 11 methods, another student struggled to finish inequalities questions within time limits—misplaced formulas led to incomplete answers.

For a Year 4 learner practicing times tables (6–9), repeated hesitation suggested gaps in recall rather than concept misunderstanding.

Meanwhile, a Year 10 physics session saw over-reliance on formula sheets for centripetal force calculations, leaving the student unsure when formulas weren't directly given. This slowed progress during revision quizzes.

Recent Achievements

One Kanwal tutor noticed a real shift with Josh in Year 11: after weeks of confusion, he finally worked through simultaneous equations using substitution and recognised exactly where he'd been going wrong with algebra.

Another high school student started out avoiding complex worded problems but has begun setting up their own x and y axes for graphing, showing more independence in unpacking questions.

Meanwhile, a younger primary student who previously hesitated to attempt multi-step addition now completes decimal addition tasks without prompting and even checks answers unassisted at the end of each session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Lake Haven Library & Council Services—or at your child's school (with permission), like Kanwal Public School.
