The most important thing an economics tutor can do for a student is to instill a sense of confidence in the student about their own ability. The tutor can demonstrate to the student that they can achieve their different goals and help them achieve these. The tutor can also create a plan to show the student how to goal will be achieved. This will…

Amidst the competitive pressure of institutions on this generation's children, one of the vital things an economics tutor can do for a fellow student is to provide a safe space for them to be able to express themselves, i.e allowing them to ask questions and understand the weaknesses of their students. That way they will be enthusiastic to learn…

To help the student form a routine and improve performance in the school. Teaching the skill of learning and eventually working towards independence is very important to me. When a student develops inner strength to learn, half of the work is done. Specially in Maths i like to analyze any gaps and help the student to bridge these gaps first. To…

Finding the right method to educate a student. The way you present your working and explanation should always suit the students learning style. Only then can the student understand the concept in depth and apply their learning to a new question. As I was once a private tutee, I understand how the tutor should explain concepts in a clear and…

I believe the most important things an economics tutor can do are to build confidence, create clarity, and inspire motivation. A good tutor doesn’t just explain answers — they guide students to think critically and develop problem-solving skills. By being patient, encouraging, and consistent, tutors help students feel supported and capable. I…

Impart upon a student not knowledge per se, but rather a desire to expand their own knowledge through self-directed learning. Learning and education should be a lifelong process, not one that ends when an individual completes their primary vocational education. Learning makes us grow and develop and look at things in different ways, and the desire…

Inside GlendaloughTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 3 student Michael focused on multiplication and division strategies, including using number lines to visualise equal groups.

In Year 6, Grace worked through fractions and decimals, applying these to solve everyday money problems.

Meanwhile, Year 7 student Lily tackled perimeter and area calculations alongside practice with algebraic expressions for missing numbers.

Recent Challenges

A Year 7 student arrived without having attempted their homework, which meant less time could be spent addressing specific difficulties in algebra.

In Year 10, one student struggled to plan effectively for a test—"he didn't check his answers before submitting," as noted—which led to repeated calculation errors in trigonometry questions.

For a Year 4 learner, working in her head rather than writing steps down caused forgotten calculations during long division.

Another senior student showed declining focus after setbacks; "her concentration was good for the first half but faded," making it harder to master advanced fractions by session's end.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Glendalough recently saw a Year 10 student who had previously struggled with algebra start to grasp the process of solving equations independently, even choosing to tackle more challenging questions without prompting.

In another session, a Year 8 student who used to avoid worded maths problems now approaches them confidently and can break down double-digit multiplication tasks with far less hesitation.

Meanwhile, one of our younger students, after weeks of shyness about reading aloud, surprised her tutor by volunteering to read the next chapter during their session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Cambridge Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Chrysalis Montessori School.
