To never give up and to try to find the best ways to suit every individual student\'s learning needs since everyone takes in and understands information uniquely. I am able to think of interesting ways to help remember things in math because I have a hard time remembering the rules sometimes so i have come up with images and stories to help me. I…

The most important things a tutor can do for a student are to build confidence, encourage curiosity, and create a supportive learning environment. Tutoring is not just about explaining content; it is about helping students develop strong problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of concepts. An effective tutor listens carefully to where a…

Making my student feel comfortable is extremely important as it will allow them to learn without feeling judged. Being comfortable with making mistakes is also a crucial part of the learning process, which can only be done if they feel comfortable. I possess a strong grasp of the subject matters that I will be tutoring. I have a deep understanding…

Let them make mistakes. Not give them the answer directly and encourage independent learning. I am of course willing to help when needed, but need them to put in the effort to reap their desired rewards. Convince them there is no such thing as a silly question. In my previous experience in tutoring, I have built strong relationships with my…

I think the most absolute and important thing is to encourage a love of the learning process. This can come through your support and guidance as they learn how to persevere and solve things on their own. To do this, the tutor can work to create a comfortable learning environment where questions are ok, you can repeat as many times as necessary,…

I think tutors should give their students the confidence to try things even if they’re not sure if they’re right, as often students with a low belief of their abilities will struggle to attempt questions even when they are capable of completing them partially or fully. By slowly building up their confidence, small knock backs can be less…

Beyond giving students knowledge and motivation, I think it is also important to get on well with them. Addressing each and every query of a student not questioning the credibility of the queries is a very important aspect that a tutor must have. In my opinion, the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help him gain confidence in himself and his abilities in the subject being taught. Indeed, from my personal experience, self-confidence plays a big role in success especially in mathematics, combined with solid knowledge of course. My strengths as a tutor are my master's…

The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to motivate the student. Motivation is key as there are often times, especially while learning something very difficult, that students become demoralised and feel like giving up. It is at this time that a tutor needs to motivate their student, and work with them step by step to help them…

Being a tutor is a very vital role in any students life. Tutor job is not only to assist them with their studies but also guide them with their career. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to teach them to learn for themselves. It is easy to rote memorize a formula or a text, but to be able to teach someone how they can teach themselves and to show them how to problem solve so that they can attack problems independently is far more valuable I believe my strengths as a…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to alleviate the stress of schoolwork and provide different perspectives in regards to question s and concepts so they may have a better understanding of what is required of them and how to approach their work. Everyone learns in different ways so it is very important to approach…

Inside Forest LodgeTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 student Blake worked on recognising fractions using the Fraction Run game and completed reading comprehension activities on Thunder and Lightning, as well as vertical algorithms for maths.

Year 8 focused on algebra with lessons covering adding and subtracting algebraic fractions, factorisation, and contextual problem solving using equations.

For Year 5, Aditi practised imaginative story writing by building a story arc in her short story "Turkey Head" and strengthened grammar skills through tense revision and vocabulary extension games.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student was reluctant to attempt persuasive writing, needing encouragement to start, and often hesitated with challenging maths reasoning tasks—"he doubted his ability and was slow to begin," noted a tutor.

In Year 7 maths, one student's distraction with online features like BitPaper tabs led to unfinished algorithms and interruptions in focus.

Meanwhile, a Year 9 student tackling algebra sometimes avoided self-editing, leaving errors uncorrected and missing feedback opportunities.

For a senior (Year 11) preparing for exams, over-reliance on calculators slowed manual calculation speed during factorization drills; this made timed practice less effective and increased anxiety under pressure.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Forest Lodge noticed that a Year 9 student who used to procrastinate now attempts answers straight away, even when unsure—showing more initiative and less hesitation than before.

In another session, a Year 11 student who often struggled to focus was able to finish all their assigned homework without reminders and even asked for extra practice questions on topics they'd previously avoided.

For a younger learner in Year 4, using a visible "to-do" list helped him independently organise his tasks and move from one activity to the next with much less prompting than earlier sessions.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Glebe Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Forest Lodge Public School.
