Ultimately, a tutor is an additional source of help on top of schooling. The reason students look for this external assitance is due to traditional teaching methods being subpar. Schools should ensure that this is never the case, but In reality it is unfortunately so. Hence, the most important thing I can provide for my students is to bridge the…

To answer any queries first - then go ahead with the class concepts. It is so important that the student learns the foundations of their chosen subject and that these foundation principles are practiced and solid. Without these foundation, students will struggle to understand further and more complex problems, so it's up to the tutor to make sure…

Building a strong personal relationship with the student also allows both the student and the tutor to communicate better, this is crucial as no fear of asking questions will reside within…

One of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is making the student realise his/her potential. I very firmly agree with what Albert Einstein says , “ Most teachers waste their time by asking questions which are intended to discover what a pupil does not know. Whereas the true art of questioning has for its purpose to discover…

Being patient and understanding. Being a student is not easy. Understanding that is the first step. Sometimes, its not that the student is not able to understand a concept or subject, it just needs to be presented in a different manner. I am very patient and can go to the grass root level of each topic, thus laying a solid foundation for each…

I believe that the most essential things a tutor can do for a student are to boost their confidence, promote a true grasp of the subject, and provide a secure, supportive environment in which they can ask questions and make errors. A skilled tutor does more than just deliver answers; they help pupils think critically and build problem-solving…

Focus on what the student is understanding. While it is easy to just teach content to a student it doesn't necessarily mean that they are absorbing all of that content. As a tutor is it important to work alongside the student to ensure that they are understanding of everything you teach. A student can only improve if they have a secure knowledge…

A tutor can turn one of the students weaknesses into his/her strength. It is the responsibility of a teacher to make sure the student understands every learning step as these adds to the basic fundamentals of learning. The tutor should ask the student questions in order to evaluate a students' understanding . A teacher should try to implement…

Inside Diamond CreekTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Emily worked on algebraic expansion and solving equations, then moved into trigonometry basics by calculating missing side lengths using diagrams.

For Year 10, Indie focused on key topics for a high-stakes maths test, including polynomials and differentiation techniques.

Meanwhile, Year 11 sessions with Nathan included integration—specifically estimating areas under curves—and revision of logarithms and circular functions to strengthen his understanding before exams.

Recent Challenges

In Year 9 maths, a student's lack of confidence held her back from applying algebra to new or unfamiliar problems—"she hesitated to start unless she was absolutely certain," as one tutor noted.

When faced with worded application questions in measurement, she often struggled to extract the relevant information and organize her working, leading to incomplete solutions.

In Year 11, difficulty remembering formulas for gradient and midpoint sometimes meant extra time spent searching through notes instead of building fluency.

During public speaking tasks in Year 6, nerves about planning led to short, underdeveloped speeches that didn't fully meet criteria.

Recent Achievements

One Diamond Creek tutor noticed a big shift with a Year 11 student who previously avoided asking questions about logarithms—this week, she brought her own list of doubts and worked through each one independently as they discussed the topic.

A Year 9 student who used to rush graphing tasks now pauses to check her method for finding gradients and y-intercepts, leading to fewer mistakes in classwork.

In primary, a Year 4 student has started explaining out loud how she breaks down 3D shapes into their nets, something she was too shy to attempt before.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Diamond Valley Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Sacred Heart School.
