The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to help them learn content rather than simply absorb it. Often students will try to memorise content and methods of problem solving rather than actually understanding why and how to use those methods. If a tutor can help a student adequately understand their studies, I believe the student…

Pass on experience and knowledge, so that the students can understand the topic at a conceptual level. The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to grant them a new perspective. Inside DandenongTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 6 student Ayaan worked on adding and comparing decimals, then moved to a practice test focused on basic algebraic expressions.

Year 8 student Zara tackled statistics by finding mean, median, mode, and range using real data sets, followed by interpreting stem-and-leaf plots.

Meanwhile, Year 9 student Michael prepared for an upcoming algebra assessment by creating linear equations from graphs and exploring intercepts through targeted practice questions.

Recent Challenges

A Year 9 student did not complete assigned homework, which limited their grasp of recent algebra content—"needs to work on completing homework assigned by tutor to be able to get a better grasp of knowledge."

In Year 11, time management in assessments was a challenge; extra minutes were spent searching through notes instead of solving problems directly.

One Year 7 learner hesitated when facing multi-step worded questions, sometimes pausing midway and doubting their approach despite knowing the method.

When asked to show working for area calculations, another student initially struggled but responded after prompting, showing the impact that process habits have on confidence during revision.

Recent Achievements

A Dandenong tutor noticed Haylee, a high school student, has started writing her own notes more effectively and now uses them when tackling test questions—something she hesitated to do before.

In another session, Elma (also in high school) was able to work through most practice test problems independently after previously needing regular prompting.

Meanwhile, Amelia from Year 7 remembered how to convert units accurately for the first time without hints, having struggled with this step earlier in the term.

Last week, Haylee finished an entire worksheet applying new techniques on her own.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Dandenong Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Dandenong Primary School.
